Order Customized Branding Irons

January means calving season. Calving season means cold, snow, sleds, late nights and earlier mornings. This fall it'll be chutes and shots, pour-on and branding.
If you're a back grounding operation though, you're branding and chuting from about October to January. I recently spoke with N40's own Jennie Ritland she and her husband run a commercial cow herd along with the feeders and backgrounded calves out of their Montana outfit: Ritland Feeding Company. When she is branding, she uses the customizable electric brand we have at North 40 Outfitters.
When I asked her how long our customers can expect the brand to last, she laughed and told me, "Well, I just wore one out, I plugged it in and all the springs just gave up on me. That was after about 10,000 cattle- ten years." That's longevity.
"I like these brands because they are quieter, cleaner and quicker than the traditional brands." You can get calves up into the chute easier when you don't have the firebox roaring alongside the gates."
Another good thing about these brands is they are quick to get and easy to order. Go in with your brand design, everything can be customized, and you should have it in a week. I mean, we own three different brands the price point, the value, these are the best at North 40."
I asked if she would ever move exclusively to electric brands, "No, there's always a place for the traditional firebox brands. When we are out there away from electricity you know you can't haul a generator around on a horse we have to rely on traditional methods in times like that. This is how it's always been done."
Come into your local North 40 Outfitters and place your order for your own electric branding iron. All you need is a drawing or a picture and the size you want your brand made (3 or 4 inch characters depending on when you're branding). Order before peak season L&H gets busy! If you'd like to order a custom branding iron, send an email to support@north40.com and we will help you get it done.
Ritland Feeding Company is located near Decision Point, a national point of interest where Lewis and Clark debated which way the Northwest Passage would be found. The historic area boasts an unmatched natural beauty with the confluence of the Marias Rivers and the Missouri.
