What’s happening in your Great Falls Fly Shop?

Every day, guys come in and say either "What’s happening." Or "Have you been fishing." I do go fishing every chance I get, but-
In order to do some of this-
We need to do a bit of this.
In order to sell and ship fly rods, we needed to do a bunch of this-
We got more orders than we had shipping containers for, so I enlisted Kyle and Payton to Sawzall a bunch of tubes. Thanks Milwaukee! Thanks for the quick help guys. We chopped tubes and cut boxes to size in no time. If you received a new rod from us, I hope you appreciate the love that went into the slightly funky packaging.
We’ve been getting lots of feedback about our new fly shop re-set. Things were a bit chaotic for a week, but we’ve got it pretty dialed in again. We framed up our doorways in the log structure and opened the aisles to our counter. Now, I can see you coming and you can see me.
We’ve been stocking Simms to the ceiling. Good thing we got a new four step ladder.
In the winter time, we also do lots of this-
On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I’ve been running fly tying classes. Thursday nights, we have open bench fly tying. Here, Zach is rolling out an articulated Drowning Mouse. Ben and Daryl look on in awe.
Rick keeps the Morning Light Charlie Russel Blend coffee carafes full so John T. and Allan can stay awake.
I do take a lunch break most days. If the schedule permits, I try to grab a few minutes of fly fishing.
I’m always happy to feed a local carp his lunch. Is anyone else carping with a Micro Spey?
We are also busy planning classes and events. This Saturday, I’m offering a Fly Fishing Class. The topic is "Streamers." We will look at fly choices and preview the differing styles, rigging and methodology for fly fishing with streamers. This course is designed to help anglers of all levels expand their fly fishing proficiency. Many fly anglers are confused about how and when to fish streamers. Join in and learn. The course fee is $30. Sign up at North 40 Fly Shop Great Falls, or give us a call at 406-761-7441
Coming up in April, you are going to want to save the dates for Trout Spey Clave.
Things are still coming together and I will be posting a more complete schedule soon. For now, I will have Tom Larimer, Michael White and Calvin Fuller along with some others to teach casting and fishing seminars. The event is free and open to the public. On Friday afternoon, we will be offering a Spey Casting Clinic. Please contact me to sign up. On Saturday, we will be running seminars throughout the day. We will also be hosting a mid-day barbeque. Stay tuned for the full listing of industry attendees, seminar schedule, location info and final event timing.
I love helping people get new gear so they can enjoy fly fishing, because I love fly fishing. The new Redington Behemoth Reel looks pretty awesome going out the door today.
Flies are starting to roll in. Filled in a bunch of juicy stillwater goodness yesterday. Got more on the way. Lots and lots and lots more.
When I can’t go fishing and I’ve got a few spare moments in the shop, I love to create flies and test them in our tank. I pass a few out to customers for research and development.
Yesterday the phone was ringing. "I was up at the lake and we killed them. Put aside all your hooks for balanced leeches. I’m coming to get them," or "I went to the river X yesterday and they ate that fly you gave me. Can you tie some more quick?" Back to the vise-
