The Sultans of Swing

The witch of November came calling and she is leaving a seasonal change in her wake. The high winds, cold temps and snow are harbingers of the cold water season.
If you like swinging flies, you are not crying about these cyclical changes. You are thinking about making long easy casts and alternately warming your hands in fleecy pockets while waiting for the tug. You will gaze upon sparkling winter scenery and enjoy the best hours of the day on the water. Gone is the need to dash out the door at 0: darkness. Relax. Enjoy a hearty breakfast first. Then take in several hours of swinging goodness.
Chances are you have tried some of these patterns in the past. If not, or if your swinging stash is thin, come in and get some. While there are an endless number of creations to swing, the "Sultans of Swing" is a solid line up that should put a smile on your face:
- Jawbreaker Tubes, Smoke N’ Mirrors, Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash, Swinger Cray, Kreelex, Polar Minnow, Foxee Red Minnow, Clousers, Skiddish, Seal Buggers, MRF Bugger, Sculpzilla
If you are a fly tier you might want to spin up a few of these patterns:
If you are ready to swing flies but don’t have a two handed fly rod yet, you are not out of the game. Come in and grab an OPST Skagit head for your single hander. With a new head and a couple of these flies, you can enjoy the great days to come during the cold water season.
Don’t forget to wear a warm beanie. We’ve got a bunch of stylish options from Simms. We also carry the Extreme Foldover Mitt. The foldover mitten has a snap back so it will stay put when you want it out of your way.
A good old Stanley Thermos with some hot coffee will keep you smiling. Bring along a Stanley food jar for some hot soup or hot stew. We’ve got multiple styles and sizes from Hydroflask for your beverage storage needs. If you want a cold one, slip it into your Yeti Colster. I said cold, not frozen. Keep it insulated at drinking temperature.
To enjoy the winter swing, you will need the right gear. We’ve got you covered head to feet. If you’d rather tie flies, we’ve got you covered there too. Saturday at North 40 Fly Shops is your day. Hope to see you.
