Spokane Fly Fishers

When I moved to Spokane in 2010, I didn’t know anyone in the fly fishing community and knew very little about the local water. After a quick Google search, I discovered the Spokane Fly Fishers Club (SFF), went to one of their monthly meetings, and was immediately adopted by the club. Since then, I've had the opportunity to teach classes, go on outings, and partake in community events sponsored by the SFF.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month, September through April, at the St. Francis School located at 1104 W Heroy Avenue. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers like Kelly Galloup, Phil Rowley, and local experts. May is dedicated to the annual awards picnic, which is typically held offsite.
SFF holds two major fundraisers every year to support club activities and conservation projects throughout the region. The annual fly auction takes place in November, featuring flies donated by local tyers, SFF members, and retailers.
This year’s conservation and education raffle took place on March 9th and had over 100 people in attendance. On this evening, attendees purchased bucket raffle tickets with the hopes of winning items that were donated by SFF members, area businesses, and guides.
When it comes to education, the SFF offers both fly tying classes and an in-depth fly fishing school that covers everything from entomology to casting over an 8-week period. Classes are taught by SFF members who donate their time to get more people involved with the sport of fly fishing.
One of the biggest benefits of being a SFF member is the outings that take place throughout Washington, Idaho, and Montana. This gives members a chance to connect both personally and hopefully to a few fish as well!
You don’t have to be a member to go to meetings, but I’m pretty sure you’ll join after attending one! Go to www.spokaneflyfishers.com for a full schedule of upcoming events and outings.
