Redington Behemoth Reel Review

January through March is an exciting time of year for those who work in the fly fishing industry. New products are consistently arriving for us to play around with, and do some research on.

Design and Feel of the Behemoth Reel

One item that recently caught my attention is the Redington Behemoth. It immediately captured my eyes one day when I walked by our reel case. My initial thought was "if Darth Vader was a fly fisherman, he would use this reel."

The design of the reel looks different than any other reel I can think. It has a very original die-cast construction that is built to turn a lot of heads. The Behemoth's large arbor spool design in meant to speed up retrieval and reduce line memory.

Not to mention its deep V structured spool increases backing capacity for when you run into those tempered trout. The reel knob is a twin molded, soft-touch ergonomic handle for maximum grip, and its name "BEHEMOTH" is carved on the side of the reel in large letters.

Behemoth Reel Drag Test

Once I built up enough courage to handle this reel, I turned the over-sized drag knob to see what it can do. I was certainly not disappointed. These reels have more drag than any fisherman will ever need.

I tightened the adjustable CarbonFiber drag so tight that the spool refused to budge. Now, I truly understand why it brags to be the most powerful drag in its class. For those who retrieve with their right hand, the reel easily converts from left to right within minutes.

Still not sold? The Redington Behemoth has a lifetime warranty for when the fish is just a little too big.
