Fred's Polar Express Minnow pattern was conjured up with minimalism in mind. The simple yet very effective use of materials here is what makes this fly a great imitation. First of all, it is a pattern that is very simple to tie. Secondly, it is widely customizable with the variety of coloring that can be used to produce a range of baitfish imitations. Olive and greens will give you a perfect rainbow trout minnow, while browns and yellows imitate a young brown trout. This pattern could also be adapted for saltwater use to imitate a sardina.
