Ode to the Double Bunny

Back in 2007 Paul, Erik, Broady, Ben and a few of the guys trying to pull off this "fly shop in a farm store" thing (find out how it all got started here) were contributing to the newsletter which we created with very few connections to the fly fishing industry. Names like Gary LaFontaine, Rene Harrop, Kelly Galloup- just to name a very few were about the same to us as MJ, Shaq, Jerry Rice, and Kirby Puckett.
For Paul- that guy was Scott Sanchez.
So you can imagine how excited Paul was last week, when during a tour and line showing at the new and beautiful Simms facility in 4-corners near Bozeman, MT, he met Mr. Scott Sanchez. Scott works for Jack Dennis Fly Shop near Jackson Hole as the fly shop manager for Jack Dennis Outdoors and was touring the new facility as well. After Paul could soak up all he could from our new friends at Jack Dennis Fly Shop we had the chance to sit down and have a drink with one of the greats.
We have Scott to thank for inspiring us to tie and use the Double Bunny for just about every species of fish we have ever targeted. And when it comes to tying, I can’t tell you how many awful looking Double Bunnies we tied with super glue until we finally figured out that the Tear Mender product in the tarp section of the farm department worked much better. Lets just say this was a time when many lessons were learned, but the fish came as well, and we have the Double Bunny to thank. Dedicated to this great fly is Paul's poem.
ODE TO THE DOUBLE BUNNY
Ode to the double bunny,
Oh, it looks so funny,
To the trout, it tastes oh so yummy,
When it in their mouth, it’s not so funny,
Zonker strips back to back,
This fly is like wild trout crack,
A size 4 hook and dumbbell eyes,
The only trout you’ll see are of monstrous size,
Fish it in the morning or fish it at night,
Trout bums know the double bunnies might,
So stock up on flies and load the boat,
And tie on a double bunny for your next river float!
-Paul "Party" Considine, 2007
