HeartSoul Scrubs: A (Tall) Nurse’s Review

When you spend 12 hours a day in the same uniform, and when that uniform holds all your important tools where you need them to perform your job well—those clothes, and that tool belt, become more than simple “workwear”.
Like any working profession, nursing is an industry where the fit and functionality of your uniform is paramount to comfort and usability on the job. When the clothes you wear become part of your job, finding the right pair of scrubs as a nurse can be like finding the “right” power tools on a construction site.
Because of this, there will always be the “Milwaukee versus Dewalt” type of personal preference debate when it comes to "the right" scrubs, but no matter what, two key features in that "right" pair of scrubs are indivisible:
-
Material: needs to be breathable, comfortable and resist stains.
-
Fit and Functionality: you need your nursing paraphernalia in the right spots, and that means pockets, gussets, seams and more.
When it comes to determining whether a pair of medical scrubs passes muster, who better to decide that than a working nurse? So, we asked a local Montana nurse to put HeartSoul Scrubs to the test out in the field. Here’s what she had to say—

HeartSoul Scrubs Review: Material
“When I am looking to buy new scrubs, the first thing I check is the material feel. I am looking for a blend of an Under Armour-ish + cotton duck material--the material you see in heavy duty work clothes like Carhartt. Those are extremes, but the perfect scrub material exists between those two types of material—and when I felt the HeartSoul scrub material, it felt like it was an almost perfect match.”
After wearing these on the floor during her trial period, Bre was sold on the material in HeartSoul scrubs—“The material is so easy to keep clean and it resists stains very well. One way I can tell if a material is ‘cleanable’ or not is hand sanitizer. When I get hand sanitizer on my scrubs it usually takes 3-4 washes before it comes out… with the HeartSoul scrubs, the hand sanitzer stains were out after the first wash and at most the second.”
Here is the scrub top (and the scrub bottom) Bre wore during the trial period for this review.
“The material is tough like cotton duck, but breathable like sportswear and moving all day in these scrubs was no issue.” So, when considering whether to make HeartSoul scrubs your “Dewalt of Milwaukee” tool belt, material in the HeartSoul scrubs passes muster.
But what about the fit and functionality of these scrubs?
HeartSoul Scrubs: Fit and Functionality Review
One drawback when it came to the fit of these scrubs was on our part here in the office—Bre is 5’9” tall… and we gave her a regular-large size pair of scrubs to test. So her first comment on the fit of these scrubs was directly related to that—“If I was going to buy these, I would definitely get the tall size; these were like a capris-model scrub for me.”
So, rating the “fit” on the HeartSoul scrubs we asked Bre to test is somewhat skewed because we gave her the wrong size, but as to functionality—Bre was able to get a good sense of whether these scrubs would make the cut for her nursing preferences.
“These definitely need more pockets, and I need my scrubs to be navy colored for my job. I’d love to see a line of HeartSoul scrubs that had more pockets—on the oncology floor and when I worked in the prison, nurses need pockets for their tools. These scrubs are fashionable, but for me, it seems like to make them look better, they took away the number of pockets. Who knows—maybe a lot of pockets are not as ‘attractive’ or something?”
Overall Review of HeartSoul Scrubs
These scrubs have an incredible material that is easily cleanable, resists stains and has great breathability. If you are tall, buy tall sizes—and if you have a number of pockets you like or need in the field, make sure you buy the correct style model of scrubs. Some scrubs have more pockets, some scrubs have less pockets.
Like any workwear or industry tool, personal preference will have a large impact on whether or not HeartSoul scrubs are for you—the material will work for you, the fit and functionality will be a feature you need to gauge for yourself before purchasing these scrubs.
“I’d recommend these scrubs to a nurse if s/he was aware of the pocket issue. So, look at the pictures before you order them and count pockets, and make sure to buy scrubs that fit your body type. Simple steps to make sure you get the right pair that fit and work for you.”
