When Zell Rowland designed Booyah Baits new Prank, he must have confused the inside of the box crew. His design philosophy of blending “best of both world’s” features into one bait is catching on, but mashing a crankbait with a top-water bait must have seemed highly impractical to most people. You can be sure that confusion, combined with Zell’s infinite top-water bass fishing wisdom, led to the Prank’s creation. The Prank is a top-water popper with a twist. It has a shallow- running, square-bill cranking lip below the face of the bait. This allows for multiple things to happen; you can pop this bait like a standard popper, two-to four times in the premium area; and, once out of the prime water you can reel it back as a shallow-running crankbait. That way, you don’t waste time during three quarters of your retrieve fishing water in an ineffective fashion. As a bonus, The Prank’s square bill deflects off shallow logs, stumps, and rocks better than a standard-bill design. You can also make casts between top-water hot-spots, knowing that this bait will dive down one-to two feet below the surface. The Prank is outfitted with a feather treble on the back to give increased action. Booyah says, “This could be the ultimate top-water popper.” Well of course they do. What else would they say/ But, from what we can see the Prank will be a contender in the most versatile bait department. The bass world is excited about this bait and, ulitimately, will be the judge and jury to Booyah’s claim.
The Flex II Fishing Lure from Booyah Baits
You need to add some Booyah popper fishing baits to your lure lineup. Do that by ordering these.
Whenever a supplier shows us a new crankbait these days, it can be an eye-roller. That’s because there is a glut of cranks on the market with nearly the same design. However, when I sat down with Paul Considine, North 40’s fishing buyer, and Booyah representatives, we decided to find space for the Flex II. The Flex II is a fully foam-injected square-bill crank. The foam body allows the bait to move and act like a traditional balsa bait, but this modern design offers much greater durability. To make this bait even more awesome, it has a one-piece lip and rattle chamber, which also increases durability and creates a vibration. Hopefully, that results in more bites. Remember, this is a square-bill crankbait, so expect it to dig and bounce off structure better than baits with traditional lips.
