And Did I Mention, My Mr. Heater Broke...

I'm just about to go to bed and am feeling fired up to fish in the morning. My car is ready to hit the road early, head back to Great Falls, and then trek to Bozeman, where it will remain for the weekend. The wind is howling, like it always does, but I still want to fish. I have not passed up on an opportunity to fish for a long time. Working at 10:30 gives me plenty of time to spend $15 bucks on gas, $5 bucks on a pair of breakfast burrito's at Quigleys while there's still moonlight and a shot at the big one, which will probably just spit the hook. I think she is the reason for me fiending my instant return the river in the first place.

Working with Fred, Cornfeed, Shane, and Matt this week has sparked many fishing related conversations ranging from Ling to snot rockets. Lots of customers passing through say fishing has been great for them. Most of which are up below the dam. Still reports of high planter catch ratios, along with walleye reports (iffy) and some decent brown action on streamers. I will say that swung and sluggishly stripped streamers are definitely raising some impressive fish.
Back to the weather.

I woke up at 5:30, left Great Falls, and fished the canyon before work in the morning several times in the past two weeks. For those that want to go out and fish, I would recommend giving it a shot. Though I should keep it to myself, the early morning has actually been a great time to start fishing.

I have been putting up my biggest numbers and pulling in my biggest fish before 9 a.m. Fish are ready to take a dead drifted or swung fly as soon as you can see your rod tip. Why? I don't know because I haven't been here long, but it's a great place to fish, no doubt. Many times, when coming from Great Falls, you will hit a train of wind around the canyon mouth. Don't panic! Most of the time the wind becomes fisherman friendly by Mt. Palace. A few nulls in the day have dampened my game, but it's still fishing, and I can think of worse ways to freeze my hands off. We have a ton of new stuff arriving every day. Tippet, rods, lines, flies, and bags to name a few. If you are lucky, I'll show you a deal in the shop that would be hard to beat on pro form. That is, if I don't buy it first.
