What's New With Loon?
With fly tying season almost upon us, there is no reason not to get excited about Loon's newest products. These visually pleasing yet ergonomically useful tools will bring your fly tying bench to a new level of efficiency. One look is all it takes to see that Loon Outdoors made a point to strive in ergonomics. After studying each individual tool, I found one word that best describes these innovative products, "sexy". Here are a few of my personal favorites.
Ergo Hair Scissors $15.99
Streamer season is here, and I could not be more excited. Hooking beautifully spotted browns on the swing is the sole reason why I can't sleep at night. Since the use of deer, elk and ram wool is in my near future, I couldn't help but immediately notice the Ergo Hair Scissors at first glance. These 4.5 inch surgical quality, stainless steel scissors might be the best hair scissors on the market today. The enlarged ergonomic thumb hole gives the tier comforting grip, and makes cutting through tough materials easy. After one use, it is clear to see why Loon describes it as "Heavy-duty scissors of the highest quality."
Gator Grip Dubbing Spinner $14.99
Weighing in at 2.4 ounces, this dubbing spinner makes dubbing loops easier than wrapping chenille. Even though I exaggerated that last sentence, this dubbing spinner still gives OPST's dubbing spinner a run for their money. One feature that beats OPST's spinner is the ergo ring. This ring was designed to give the tier consistent tension when palmering. With two interchangeable heads included in the affordable price, this product is a must for anyone who considers himself a serious tier.
Ergo Dubbing Brush $8.99
As a fly tier with over 15 years under my belt, this dubbing brush is my favorite to date. The oval grip makes handling this durable tool easy when roughing up your favorite streamer. The surgical quality, stainless steel helix spine gives this tool strength and longevity. The days of using Velcro has finally come to a much needed end.
Rogue Quickdraw Forceps $19.99
Although not designed for the tying bench, the Rogue Quickdraw Forceps cannot be overlooked. When removing the hook from your next 20lb Northern Pike, remove that hook with some authority by using this forcep. This hemostat includes features such as a hook eye cleaner, built in carabiner, double dipped handle, matte black rust-resistant finish, scissor in jaw, and flat geometric jaw. The best part is, if for some reason you are not 100% satisfied with this product, Loon stands by their unconditional guarantee. Meaning if you don't like the product, let Loon Outdoors know, and they will make it right.
Now these are only a few of my favorites from the new releases. Loon also came out with All Purpose Scissors, Arrow Point Scissors, Razor Scissors (4 & 5 inch), and a Bodkin. It goes without saying that all of these tools were designed ergonomically sound.
